Wow! It has been a long time since posting! I apologize. Time and a busy life got away from me. I am not quite sure how this happens so easily. It doesn’t matter what stage of life your in, time slips away quickly. I feel the older I get the quicker time slips!
Do you find this to be true?
So, we have been in our house eight years! I never thought I would be here this long. Once again time has slipped away. I have never lived in one house this long, since childhood. I enjoy a “new” house. I dream about a “new” house. That being said, I need to keep my current house “new”. In efforts to keep it looking new and updated, I have many projects on my list to complete this school year.
My first project was to repaint my entrance door from the garage. I accidentally painted it years ago with the wrong paint. I loved the color, but painted my metal door with a flat, water based paint. After four kids throwing balls, bikes, and backpacks into the door and Midwest weather the paint started peeling.
I first sanded the door with 120 grit and 220 grit sand paper. This helped chip away paint that was coming off and make the surface rough so the new paint would adhere to it. I also took off the weather stripping, so I could replace it. After two trips to Lowe’s I bought the correct weather strip replacement piece. Little did I know there are numerous choices for weather strips for a door. I also had to drill my own holes to attach it to the door. I drilled a few extra holes, just for “practice”.
I painted the door with Rustoleum black glossy paint. I used a brush and a roller. While the door was drying I noticed the handrail and trim were dirty and dingy, as well. So I painted them.
A little paint goes a long way. It just makes you feel better when items have a fresh coat of paint on them. It is the little things in life that are exciting!
Well, off to my next project before time passes me by!

That looks great Kelley! You’ve inspired me to paint my door as well, although you know I like to take a few shortcuts, so I may not be redoing the weather stripping, taking off the doorknob….or lets be honest….even taking the door off the hinges for that matter! We each work our own way, right? Maybe if I just get a magic eraser and clean it….. :0)
I NEVER thought about painting our door to the garage…great idea and I soooo want to do this!
Did you not need to prime it? I have that on my list of projects but for some reason I’m afraid if I paint it, it’ll peel. I usually use Glidden’s
“Gripper” primer. Does the Rustoleum not need a primer? That would be awesome if it didn’t !!!!
I did not use a primer because I sanded the door. The Rustoleum Door Paint does not require priming. You can use this paint on metal or wood doors. It does suggest sanding a door that has already been painted. My paint was already chipping so I thought it would be best to sand. This paint is thick. I would suggest thinning it with paint thinner to get a better consistency.
